World Vision requires online payment and contact information be submitted by an adult. If you are under 16 years of age and would still like to purchase a gift from the online gift catalogue, just ask a parent or guardian to provide their payment and contact information, and World Vision will accept the donation.
You can choose to receive World Vision greeting cards that you can use to let friends and family members know that a gift has been given in their name. Alternatively, you can email them a World Vision e-card.
When you send a gift catalogue e-card, World Vision emails you a copy of the e-card that was sent to your honouree . You can keep the copy for your records and/or use it to forward to your honouree if they didn't receive the e-card (e.g. if the incorrect email address was entered, if the e-card was sent to their spam folder, etc.).
If any of the e-cards you have sent are not retrieved within a few days, World Vision will notify you by email so you can "remind" the honourees to check their email accounts. However, e-cards remain active for at least four months. During that time, a recipient can access the e-card an unlimited number of times.
No. However, by purchasing "Gift for your Sponsored Child's Community," your gift of $50 or more will be pooled together with gifts from other sponsors with children in the same community to provide things like books, toys and sports equipment for the whole community to enjoy. Your name or donor ID will be used to ensure that this special gift is matched with your sponsored child's community.
Prices in the catalogue represent average actual costs across a number of developing countries where the gifts are used. Costs vary depending upon each context. The gift prices also include associated items and training that assist families and communities to make the best use of the item.
Example: when you give a gift of chickens, you also provide animals training in husbandry and pen construction, materials to build pens, vaccinations, and even animal feed in some cases. This ensures that World Vision helps communities create lasting and sustainable change. With training, families can use the animals and plants they are given to improve their children's health for years to come.
While the majority of the purchase price goes toward buying and delivering the actual gift item, fundraising and administration costs are also built into the price of each gift in the catalogue. World Vision is an organization you can trust: In 2012, 81.1% of gifts to World Vision go directly into programs that help children, while only 13.7% go to fundraising services and 5.2% to administration.
Gift catalogue items are selected to help families meet pressing needs as well as increase household income. For example, a gift of a sheep will ensure that a mother can provide nourishing milk and meat to her children for improved family nutrition, that the family can have a good harvest by using the sheep manure to fertilize crops, and that the family can have extra money for things like school fees and school uniforms by bringing the sheep's wool to market to be sold. Additionally, sheep often have twins or triplets that can be sold for family income.
World Vision works with community leaders to develop a fair system for distributing gift catalogue items. Beneficiaries are chosen on the basis of need. Your gift will be part of a larger program in which a number of families and community members receive similar items.
Items you choose are purchased locally. This ensures the products (for example, fruit trees) are well suited to the local environment. Buying locally also helps support the local economy and keeps transportation costs to a minimum.
No. All of the gift items have been carefully selected to meet critical needs in the areas where World Vision works. Every gift is valuable and we leave it up to you to choose which gift you wish to give. You can also choose to give the gift of child sponsorship, providing the essential funding that allows World Vision to take its work to new communities.
Yes. Gifts in memoriam can be made at https://www.worldvision.ca/give-a-gift/Pages/donate-in-memory.aspx. You can request that your donation be used to purchase items from the gift catalogue.
In the exceptional case where donations exceed what is needed for a particular item, World Vision will redirect funds to a similar item or program to help people in need.
Funds remaining after one time use or funds from cards not used after 12 months after purchase will go into a general fund where most needed to help children and families, as determined by World Vision.
